Below is a list of resources for the LGBTQIA+ community. We are always trying to grow Out Front Theatre Company into a more expansive and welcoming space for the LGBTQIA+ community. If you have any suggestions on how to better this list, please contact Brady Brown at brady@outfronttheatre.com.

Youth Resources

  • Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN)
    GLSEN works to ensure that LGBTQIA+ students are able to learn and grow in a school environment free from bullying and harassment.
  • Genders & Sexualities; or Gay & Straight Alliance (GSA) Network
    GSA clubs–originally called Gay-Straight Alliance clubs when they first established in the 1980s–are student-run organizations, typically in a high school or middle school, which provide a safe place for students to meet, support each other, and talk about issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity and expression.
  • It Gets Better Project
    The It Gets Better Project is a nonprofit organization with a mission to uplift, empower, and connect lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer youth around the globe.
  • LGBTQ Student Resources and Support

  • LGBTQ+ Resources for College Students (upromise)
    A list and index of resources for LGBTQIA+ college students, including a list of queer-friendly universities and community outreach options.
  • Point Foundation
    Point Foundation empowers promising lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer students to achieve their full academic and leadership potential – despite the obstacles often put before them – to make a significant impact on society.
  • Safe Schools Coalition
    Safe Schools Coalition is a public-private partnership, in support of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender, queer and questioning youth, working to help schools become safe places where every family can belong, where every educator can teach, and where every child can learn, regardless of gender, gender identity or sexual orientation.
  • The Trevor Project
    The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning (LGBTQ) young people under 25.
  • 44 Self-Esteem Resources for Nonbinary Adolescents and Teens
    Dives into understanding gender identity and self-image, and provides various digital resources for self-esteem like articles, podcasts, activities, and books. It also includes an additional resource section for parents and clinicians of non-binary adolescents.

Senior Resources

  • LGBTQIA+ Senior Housing Options
    A guide to help seniors in the LGBTQIA+ community find accepting, comfortable senior housing.

  • Housing Information for LGBTQIA+ Seniors
    For many seniors, keeping up with  a home takes tremendous effort and financial investment. That’s why many older adults decide to sell their homes and take advantage of the benefits of senior housing.

Transgender Resources

  • National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE)
    NCTE was founded in 2003 by transgender activists who recognized the urgent need for policy change to advance transgender equality.
  • Sylvia Rivera Law Project
    The Sylvia Rivera Law Project (SRLP) works to guarantee that all people are free to self-determine their gender identity and expression, regardless of income or race, and without facing harassment, discrimination, or violence.
  • Transgender Law Center
    Transgender Law Center changes law, policy, and attitudes so that all people can live safely, authentically, and free from discrimination regardless of their gender identity or expression.
  • Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund
    Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund is committed to ending discrimination based upon gender identity and expression and to achieving equality for transgender people through public education, test-case litigation, direct legal services, and public policy efforts.

  • BiNetUSA
    As America’s oldest advocacy organization for bisexual, pansexual, fluid, queer-identified and unlabeled people, BiNet USA facilitates the development of a cohesive network of independent bisexual and bi-friendly communities.
  • Bisexual.org
    Bisexual.org is a project designed to introduce this community to the world and to bring faces and voices of the bi community to the world, share accurate information, answer questions, and provide resources for further learning.
  • Bisexual Resource Center
    The BRC is committed to providing support to the bisexual community and raising public awareness about bisexuality and bisexual people.

Military Resources

 

  • The American Military Partner AssociationThe American Military Partner Association is the nation’s largest resource and support network for the partners, spouses, families, and allies of America’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) service members and veterans.
  • American Veterans for Equal RightsAmerican Veterans for Equal Rights (AVER) is a non-profit, non-partisan, chapter-based Veterans Service Organization of active, reserve, and veteran service members dedicated to full and equal rights and equitable treatment for all present and former members of the U.S. Armed Forces.
  • Service Members Legal Defense NetworkA non-partisan, non-profit, legal services, watchdog and policy organization dedicated to ending discrimination against and harassment of military personnel affected by “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT).
  • Transgender American Veterans AssociationThe Transgender American Veterans Association (TAVA) acts proactively with other concerned GLBT organizations to ensure that transsexual and transgendered veterans will receive appropriate care for medical conditions.
  • Veterans for Human RightsThe Veterans for Human Rights promotes the ideals of Patriotism by fighting against discrimination through education, support services and networking for GLBT Vets and their allies, and by being a positive presence in our local community.

HIV/AIDS Advocacy Resources

  • Georgia CAPUS
    One-stop information source for all things HIV/AIDS within the state of Georgia.
  • Communities Advocating Emergency AIDS Relief (CAEAR)
    The Communities Advocating Emergency AIDS Relief (CAEAR) Coalition is the oldest national organization with a primary focus on the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Program.
  • GMHC
    GMHC is the world’s first and leading provider of HIV/AIDS prevention, care and advocacy and fights to end the AIDS epidemic and uplift the lives of all affected.
  • National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD)
    NASTAD is a leading non-partisan non-profit association that represents public health officials who administer HIV and hepatitis programs in the U.S. and around the world.
  • HIV Prevention Justice
    HIV PJA goals are to develop and implement National Organizing and Policy Strategies that systemically reduce factors that drive HIV epidemic and health inequities.
  • The Social Security and Disability Resource Center 
    Informational website that provides answers to questions about how to apply for disability, how to appeal a claim in the event of a denial, how to navigate the federal system, and how to avoid certain mistakes that are commonly made by applicants. They have information specific to HIV/AIDS.
  • Elton John AIDS Foundation
    The Elton John AIDS Foundation was established in 1992 and is one of the leading independent AIDS organisations in the world. The Foundation’s mission is simple: to be a powerful force in the end to the AIDS epidemic.
  • Positive Impact Health Centers
    Positive Impact Health Center’s mission is to provide client-centered care for the HIV community to have a life worth loving. Comprehensive services are available at the Duluth, Decatur and Marietta Centers for those individuals living with HIV. Grant funding enables most services to be provided on a sliding fee basis.

  • ACLU Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Project
    The LGBT Project fights discrimination and moves public opinion on LGBT rights through the courts, legislatures and public education.
  • Equality Freedom
    Equality Federation is the movement builder and strategic partner to state-based organizations advocating for LGBTQ people.
  • Human Rights Campaign (HRC)
    The Human Rights Campaign and the Human Rights Campaign Foundation together serve as America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve LGBTQIA+ equality.
  • The LGBT Bar
    The National LGBT Bar Association is a national association of lawyers, judges and other legal professionals, law students, activists, and affiliated lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender legal organizations.
  • National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR)
    The National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) was the first national LGBTQ legal organization founded by women and brings a fierce, longstanding commitment to racial and economic justice and our community’s most vulnerable.
  • National LGBTQ Task Force
    The National LGBTQ Task Force advances full freedom, justice and equality for LGBTQ people.
  • Victory Fund
    Victory Fund provides campaign, fundraising and communications support to LGBTQ candidates to increase the number of openly LGBTQ elected officials

    The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is a national network of local crisis centers that provides free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24/7.
  • Trans Lifeline: (877) 565-8860
    Trans Lifeline is a national trans-led 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to improving the quality of trans lives by responding to the critical needs of our community with direct service, material support, advocacy, and education.
  • Crisis Text Line: Text START to 741-741
    Crisis Text Line is free, 24/7 support for those in crisis. Text from anywhere in the USA to text with a trained Crisis Counselor.

    Both provide telephone, online private one-to-one chat and email peer-support, as well as factual information and local resources for cities and towns across the United States.
